History: The Pug is an ancient toy breed with roots tracing back to imperial China over 2,000 years ago. Bred to be companions for Chinese royalty, Pugs lived luxurious lives in palaces and were often guarded by soldiers. Eventually introduced to Europe by Dutch traders in the 16th century, they became favored lapdogs in royal courts, including those of the Netherlands, France, and England. Their trademark features—large expressive eyes, curled tail, and wrinkled face—have made them instantly recognizable and universally adored. Today, the Pug remains a popular pet known for its joyful personality, clown-like antics, and deep bond with its human family.
