History: The Bluetick Coonhound was developed in the southern United States, particularly in Louisiana and Tennessee. It descends from the French Grand Bleu de Gascogne and English Foxhounds, among others. Originally bred for raccoon hunting, Blueticks are valued for their remarkable stamina, cold-nose tracking ability, and tenacity on the trail. Their loud, baying voice is a defining trait, used to communicate with hunters while following a scent. Today, they serve as hunting companions, search-and-rescue dogs, and loyal family pets for experienced dog owners who appreciate their independent nature and strong work ethic.
